Coffee Grind Quality and How Each Is Used

February 9, 2010

I found this grind comparison chart earlier in the year while browsing around online and thought that I would share it with all of you who may make your coffee at home (you know, like when Pascal’s is closed…). Here’s a crash coarse in coffee grind and how it effects your brew. Special thanks goes to Michael Smith at INeedCoffee.com and photographer Carl Melville for allowing us to reproduce this incredibly helpful guide.

Coarse Grind

Coarse grind is typically used with your French press or press pot coffee maker. This is the brewing method with a container (often glass) with a filter/mesh plunger to force grinds to the bottom of the container, allowing for a clean poor with no debris (hopefully!)

Music Recommendations, care of nick

January 25, 2010

Though completely unrelated to coffee, I just wanted to throw out some music recommendations. While we are limited on some of the things we can play here at Pascal’s, that doesn’t mean all we listen to are mellow indie-acoustic tunes. Here’s a couple of my favorite albums right now.

Paper Route- Absence (they have an awesome website)

Grizzly Bear- Veckatimest

Heartless Bastards- The Mountain

Phil Collins- …Hits (how can you not love Phil Collins?)

The Swell Season- Strict Joy

The Black Keys- pretty much any album they’ve ever released

And while speaking of music, don’t miss Hoyle Tuesday night at the Atlantic downtown. Nathan Beam and Kevin O’Keefe played here for our inaugural First Friday series and are playing their first official show tomorrow with the full band. It promises to be a good time so don’t miss it.

Any music recommendations for us, all of you out in the magical land of cyber space?
